1. Event Planning Assistant
The Wrong Prom will be a night of fun costumes and a trip down memory lane. It’s your high school prom as you’ve never seen it before! If you like to plan parties and are great at gathering a crowd then this event needs you!
Responsibilities
- Help the Event Coordinator tracking down venues, rentals, and organizing the event
- Phone venues, DJ’s, and other contacts as needed
- Advertise event through various outlets including social media, print, email campaign etc.
- Be able to assist on the day of the event in July (TBD with Event Coordinator).
Qualifications
- Have fun and be creative!
- Be detail oriented and organized
- Persistent and self-starter
- Be able to follow timelines and instructions
2. Web Assistant
The Web Assistant is responsible for the online experience of VAFF’s members, partners, film makers, volunteers, and the general public. By creating an optimal user experience, the Web Assistant ensures that VAF’Fs online portal is among its best assets and offers a public “face” to the Festival on the Internet.
Responsibilities
- Takes direction with Execuitive to determine the Web site’s purpose, functions, requirements and long-term strategy
- Work with internal or outside developers to create an effective user experience
- Work with Webmaster to ensure optimal user experience
- Establish policies and procedures around content management
- Collaborate with social media team to ensure regular updates of content
- Organize and update online photo gallery
Qualifications
- Experience in Web design
- Some programming experience
- Understanding of HTML, Flash, Dreamweaver
- Interest in developing Web skills in a non-profit environment
3. Photo Librarian
The Photo Librarian organizes, catalogs and (if necessary) scans photographs for the VAFF website and social media outlets. The Photo Librarian should have some experience with digital photography and organizing photos. In addition, applicants must be computer literate with good editing, graphic and photography skills. This position calls for the candidate to be organized and be prepared to work independently.
Responsibilities
- Obtain photos from event photographers and previous years’ archives
- Tag, and Geotag photos
- Organize photos on the Website gallery, including photos of past years’ events
- Make photos available to the Social Media Team
Qualifications
- Proficient in Photoshop
- Experience with HTML and Web design
- Interest in and eye for photography
4. Newsletter Editor Responsibilities
- Proofread and edit written submissions
- Write an editorial column
- Create page layout
- Collaborate with writers and Execuitive members to gather newsletter content
- Work with Design Team to create a Newsletter that is consistent with the VAFF look
- Produce creative, interesting, relevant, and fun newsletter
- Submit newsletter for final approval from Execuitive Team
- Distribute newsletter to VAFF members
Qualifications
- Knowledge of MS Word and Adobe Pagemaker (or other publishing software)
- Good writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Self-starter with a pro-active personality
5. Social Media Writer Responsibilities
- Engage wih our community on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Youtube, and VAFF Website
- Create regular posts for VAFF Website and newsletter
- Collaborate with Social Media Team, Webmaster, Newsletter Editor to find stories, including
- announcements and updates
- film teasers
- interviews with film makers and members of the arts community
- event coverage
- Notify Social Media Team about events in the film festival community
Qualifications
- Knowledge of MS Word and Adobe Pagemaker (or other publishing software)
- Good writing skills with ability to tailor messages to the appropriate audience
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Self-starter with a pro-active personality
- Awareness of social media outlets and conventions
