Mina Shum: A Writer’s Journey

A quick look inside the creative and professional process of Mina Shum, award-winning screenwriter. Sharing her screenwriting tools and tips, and using clips from her films, Shum will examine what it takes to turn an idea into a successful screenplay.
This session will also include a half hour Q & A.

Mina Shum is one of Canada’s leading independent filmmakers. Born in Hong King and raised in Vancouver, her debut feature, “Double Happiness,” starring Sandra Oh, won prizes in Canada and Europe and had its US premiere at the Sundance Festival. Her subsequent features, “Drive, She Said” and “Long Life, Happiness And Prosperity,” also star Oh and celebrate Chinese-Canadian indentity from a female point of view. Her documentary, “Me Mom And Mona,” won a prize at the Toronto Film Festival. For television, Shum has directed episodes of the anthologies “Bliss” and “The Shields Stories,” as well as “These Arms Of Mine.”
