Love is a perennial theme in art, both in sweeping epics and smaller scale moments in life. This collection of short films runs the gamut of relationships and celebrates that magical chemistry that draws people together, despite the pesky obstacles that sometimes get in the way. Some films are happy, some are sad, but all are proudly made in Canada.


The Shortest Dream

Chinatown in New York, 1950, June 24th. Akira Kudo, a Japanese writer, and So-Rhee Moon, a young Korean widow, live in neighboring apartments. With painful memories of the war between the two nations, this unlikely pair shares a forbidden attraction when Akira invites So-Rhee over for tea.

Finding Robot

Having recently moved in together, Christine and Steve disagree about their aesthetic tastes in ‘stuff’. After a big fight, a rash Christine throws out her boyfriend’s colourful toy robot, only to realize it means more to her than she thought. Will she find it in time to save the relationship?

Teresa’s life revolves around weekly visits to her father’s grave where she performs ceremonial offers and love and respect. Mourning becomes easier than letting go until she meets Will, the cemetery’s groundskeeper.


Big Girl

When nine-year old Josephine meets her mother’s new boyfriend, she wants him out of the picture and enters into a playful competition with him over her Mom. But as the game progresses, a friendship develops, and Josephine realizes that letting people in can lead to wonderful things.


Happy Valentine’s Day

Daniel is 10, his parents have just died, and his grandfather is crazy. The hole that his parents’ death has left him with is one he is struggling to fill. And to top it all off, his zoo membership is taking forever to arrive. It’s funny, it’s sad and there’s a rhinoceros.

Mark Louie


An Olympic hopeful on the Canadian National Water Polo team, Mark hung up his trunks to pursue his film and TV dreams in 2003. Upon arriving to the business, he has been fortunate to have had much support through the Asian community. Mark attributes much of his success to the guidance he has received through this tightknit group.
