    Fathers And Daughters: Red Doors

    Sat. Nov. 4th, 9:30 PM

How do daughters cope when their father is absent physically or emotionally? In JAIME LO, SMALL AND SHY, a young girl misses her “astronaut” father while in RED DOORS, the father’s absence barely registers with his three daughters as they struggle with their own paths in life.

Director/Writer: Georgia Lee | Producers: Jane Chen, Georgia Lee, Mia Riverton
    Narrative | 35mm | Colour | 2005 | 90 minutes | USA

RED DOORS tells the story of the Wongs, a bizarrely dysfunctional Chinese American family living in New York. Father Ed (Tzi Ma, The Quiet American) is about to take early retirement and is plotting his escape from his mundane life; eldest daughter and tough businesswoman Samantha (Jacqueline Kim, Charlotte Sometimes) is engaged to the man of her dreams, but begins to think that something is missing when she runs into an old flame; middle child and med-school student Julie (Elaine Kao), the rock of the family, is unexpectedly drawn into a passionate affair with a Hollywood starlet; while youngest child Katie (Kathy Shao-Lin Lee) flirts dangerously with her high-school friend and nemesis, the boy next door. Darkly comic and curiously touching, RED DOORS is about the pains of family life, and the ties that bind us.

    Grace Park

Grace’s first foray into the film industry came by way of Jet Li’s Romeo Must Die. This was followed by The Dead Zone, Outer Limits, Jake 2.0, and The Immortal. But it was her regular role on Edgemont that gave her the chance to test her range. Her presence on Battlestar Galactica has led to roles on Stargate: SG-1 and Andromeda.
