    Just in time for this year’s MIGHTY ASIAN MOVIEMAKING MARATHON (August 7 to 19), the MAMM organizers have put together 2 great seminars to help prep team members past and present – and for anybody who’s interested in writing and producing short films.

    About Doug Barber

    Doug Barber is an award-winning writer, director and creative entrepreneur. In his mid-twenties, he co-founded a real estate investment company that grew from a standing start to over $15 million in sales in only its second year before undergoing a merger and successful public offering. Doug stayed on to head up innovative marketing programs for the newly amalgamated company which within two more years had grown to over $100 million in sales. Since then Doug has gone on to provide venture marketing consulting for a number of new start-ups in various industries. Doug has also developed successful entertainment properties for global brands such as Disney and Electronic Arts and has written original material for movies, television and video games including the blockbuster hit Def Jam: Fight for NY that generated over $100 million in sales. Doug holds a BBA from Simon Fraser University.

    About Dylan Akio Smith

    Dylan Akio Smith graduated from the UBC Film Program in 2000, and has been steadily working in film ever since. As a director, Dylan has directed the award winning short films, The Bug, Imetacanine, Man Feel Pain which won the Best Short Film at the Toronto International Film Festival, Night for the Canadian Film Centre, and most recently Big Head which was the first Canadian film screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2009 and later was acquired by the CBC. Dylan also directed a feature film in 2005 called The Cabin Movie which has been distributed in Canada, the U.S., Australia, Germany and Brazil. Currently, Dylan directs, shoots and edits game capture for EA Sports and their FIFA Franchise while gearing up to direct two feature films, Doppelganger Paul and The Job with The Whatever Institute. Dylan has also mentored and/or sat on the jury for the Crazy 8s Film Festival, The Vancouver Film School, The BC Student Film Festival, The Whistler Film Festival,Cineworks, The UBC Film Program, Final Draught and Summer Visions. He is represented by Carmen Bonnici at Pacific Artists in Vancouver.
