Sometimes even the best films have a hard time getting into festivals. Get tips on how to distribute your film through the festival circuit and carve a festival strategy on a tight budget. Javier Badillo is a Venezuelan-Canadian film director, producer, writer and musician. He has directed numerous shorts, and produced 2 features, garnering awards and screening on American TV. He has also worked for such studios as Atomic Cartoons, NFB, and The Beijing Urban Development Group. Javier is Regional Director for Raindance, a non-profit international independent filmmakers organization.
John Bolton is an award-winning filmmaker from Vancouver. Most recently, John produced and directed the classical music performance piece Phobos and Deimos Circling, featuring pianist Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa. John is currently producing and directing a series of webisodes and a documentary about the making of the chamber opera Fallujah.
Kathy Leung began programming for VAFF in 2006 and was Director of Programming in 2008 and 2009. She has travelled to film festivals in San Francisco and New York to curate films for VAFF and has participated as an accepted filmmaker. Her scripts have been chosen for CityTV initiatives and she recently was a judge for the Hot Shot Shorts film competition.
Jeremy studied Creative Writing at the University of Victoria. His videos have played on MuchMusic, MuchLoud, MuchMore and Bravo!. Lutter’s stop animated video for Justin Hewitt’s song, Close Your Eyes, has delighted audiences in film festivals worldwide. And his recent short, Joanna Makes a Friend, screened at Cannes as part of Telefilm’s “Not Short on Talent”.
