Program 9: Little Girl Lost

Sat. Nov. 7th, 9:30 PM

Looking at the world through the innocent point of view of a little girl is the theme of this program. It begins with two beautiful and reflective animations, YAN-YAN SUB CHUI: FUN MOMENTS WITH YAN-YAN, and A LONG-DISTANCE CALL. These are followed by Nian Lu’s feature film debut, LI TONG, about the adventure of an 8 year-old girl lost in Beijing.

Li Tong

Director/Writer: Tammy Nian Liu | Producer: Grady Granros
Narrative | HDCAM | Colour | 2009 | 75 min | China | Mandarin with English Subtitles

An eight-year-old girl, Li Tong (Zhicun Zhao), loses her bus pass one day after school. Penniless, she decides to walk home. On her way, she encounters a warm-hearted old lady who tries to help her, a security guard in front of a bar, a trendy young woman, a man wearing a panda costume, and even a little thief attempting to steal a pet dog from an old man. After getting a ride to the wrong address, Li Tong’s journey becomes more complicated as she soon finds herself hopelessly lost. Only the son of a migrant worker who begs in the city offers her a helping hand. The two of them become unlikely companions, each learning a bit about the world of the other as the little beggar helps Li Tong on her quest home.
