Based on a popular manga series in Japan, DEATH NOTE topped box offices in Japan and ousted blockbuster American movies from the #1 spot. When describing the film, it can come across as a campy, sci fi horror and any preconceptions are quickly uprooted when it becomes a fast-paced, psychological thriller. The film’s success in drawing large audiences in spite of breaking the genre formula found in most big-budget studio pictures is something that viewers in Vancouver will appreciate as well.
